Hever CastleTours & Tickets

Which Hever Castle Visit Suits You

There is no single right way to do Hever, and the differences are larger than they look: two tickets, four ways to arrive and a castle that opens ninety minutes after the grounds. This page picks for you.

Which Hever Castle ticket you actually need

The gap between the two day tickets is about five and a half pounds, and what it buys is the building. If the reason you are travelling is Tudor history, pay it. If the reason is the gardens, or if you have a short window that starts in the morning, Gardens Only is not the lesser ticket — it is the accurate one.

If you have half a day

Arrive at 10.30am and take the gardens: the Italian Garden, the Loggia, the Rose Garden and one walk. You will be leaving about the time the castle opens, so buy Gardens Only and do not spend the extra on a building you will not enter.

Of the fares here, the six-hour days are the half-day shape once the driving is taken out: two of them give you two hours on site.

If you have a whole day

Gardens from half past ten, castle at noon, lunch, mazes in the afternoon. That is about five hours on the estate and it is what the place is built for. The eight-hour fares from London are the ones that make it possible; the twelve-hour transfer from Dover gives you seven hours at the castle, which is more than almost anybody needs.

If you are coming for Anne Boleyn

Anne Boleyn is the reason most people make this journey, and the rooms she knew are inside the moat rather than outside it. You need Castle & Gardens, you need to be inside by early afternoon, and you should give the Book of Hours Room and the Long Gallery more than the ten minutes most visitors give them. The Capturing a Queen exhibition runs to 2 January 2027 and is included with castle admission.

Skip the Water Maze without guilt. The rooms page names what is in each one and the history page has the sequence.

If you are coming for the gardens

Time it rather than book it: June and July for the over 5,000 rose bushes, late September to the start of November for the Dahlia Border and the trees. Gardens Only, arrive at opening, and take Sunday Walk or Church Gill Walk while everybody else is queueing for the castle.

If you are bringing children

Gardens Only is a full day here: two mazes, a playground, boats and the model houses. The castle is the harder part — pushchairs cannot go past the Courtyard and the only way upstairs is a spiral. Do the outdoor half first while everyone is fresh.

If you are coming from London without a car

The train works and the estate publishes exactly how, but the last three miles are on you: a booked taxi from Edenbridge Town, or a waymarked mile on foot from Hever station, which is unmanned. There is no regular bus service to Hever Castle.

A private car removes that problem and costs what a vehicle costs rather than what a seat costs, so it turns on how many of you there are. Getting there sets the four ways side by side with times for each.
